Mission

The Low Incidence Disabilities Team (LIDT) promotes collaboration among parents, students, and educators to ensure that students with low incidence disabilities and their families have the necessary services available for success.

About Low Incidence Disabilities

Low incidence disabilities occur in ½ of 1% of the school’s population with a disability. About 10% of the world’s population has a disability.

In the Clark County School District, Low Incidence Disabilities include:

  • Autism
  • Deaf/Hard of Hearing
  • Orthopedic Impairments
  • Traumatic Brain Injury
  • Visual Impairments

The Low Incidence Disabilities Team provides direct services, consultative services, technical support, parent training, classroom consultation, professional development opportunities and supplemental programs for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder. The following are resources that may be provided by the LIDT:

  • Individualized student support and intervention
  • On-site technical assistance
  • In-service delivery, development and implementation
  • Parent training
  • Assessment
  • Individual Educational Program development
  • Staff development

The Low Incidence Disabilities Team is comprised of administration, teachers, counselors, interpreter specialists as well as highly trained support staff personnel. This transdisciplinary team has a wide variety of experiences and promotes a cooperative and collaborative model of support.

The school site team determines the need for additional assistance in solving challenges related to meeting the needs of their students. The school site team may include:

  • Administration
  • Regular Education Teacher
  • Special Education Teacher
  • Parents
  • Other Appropriate Building Staff
  • Related Services Staff, i.e. School Nurse, School Psychologist, Speech/Language Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Physical Therapist, School Social Worker, etc

The school site team accesses their Student Support Services Area Team, which may then request additional support of the LIDT. This resource is available for students who are eligible for special education services with a low incidence disability.
