Rural communities with Wells Fargo branches may apply for the Wells Fargo Rural Career Development grants from Nevada Public Education Foundation (NPEF). These funds have been provided by the Wells Fargo Community Foundation to assist communities and schools in their career development process. NPEF anticipates funding several projects. Eligible school districts include Carson, Churchill, Clark, Douglas, Elko, Humboldt, Lander, Lyon, and Pershing. 60 percent of the schools that receive these grant funds must serve 51% or greater free and reduced lunch students. MIT: Lemelson-MIT 2011 InvenTeams Lemelson-MIT InvenTeams foster inventiveness among high school students. InvenTeams composed of high school students, teachers, and mentors are asked to collaboratively identify a problem that they want to solve, research the problem, and then develop a prototype invention as an in-class or extracurricular project. Character Education Partnership: National Schools of Character The National Schools of Character Awards identify exemplary schools and districts to serve as models for others, and helps schools and districts improve their efforts in effective character education. Maximum award: $2,000. Eligibility: To be eligible, a school must have been engaged in character education for a minimum of three full years, starting no later than December 2006 for the 2010 awards. Districts need to have been engaged in character education for a minimum of four full years, starting no later than December 2005. The Fender Music Foundation Grant The Guitar Center Music Foundation accepts electronic grant applications throughout the year from 501(c)3 or governmental organizations (schools). Qualifying applicants are established, ongoing, and sustainable music programs in the United States, which provide music instruction for people of any age who would not otherwise have the opportunity to make music. The intent of the program must be music instruction, not music appreciation or entertainment, and the participants/students cannot be professional or career musicians. $1 for every recyclable ink cartridge collected Staples Inc. will donate $1 to public schools for every eligible ink cartridge they collect. Staples created the "Staples Recycle for Education" program in July 2003 to encourage cartridge recycling at its 1,100 U.S. stores but has now expanded the program nationwide. Staples now provides prepaid postage for shipping the cartridges and an account number so schools can monitor the status of reimbursement checks and total collection counts. Parents or teachers can log on to the web site below to register their school and receive a welcome kit that includes flyers to announce the program. Bowerman Track-Renovation Program, sponsored by Nike Provides matching funds of up to $50,000 for the construction or refurbishment of running tracks. The program distributes a total of $200,000 each year. Who may apply: community-based, youth-oriented organizations that can demonstrate a need for running-track construction or refurbishment and that are tax-exempt under Sections 501(c)(3) or 509(a) of the Internal Revenue Code. Calypso K-12 Integrated Classroom Grant Program (ICGP) The Calypso Control Systems ICGP is designed to provide counties, districts and municipalities with the opportunity to receive equipment grants of up to $1200, intended to facilitate the evaluation of various classroom multimedia, user interface, and control and technology management products. Microsoft's Unlimited Potential Initiative Microsoft Corp. plans to commit more than $1 billion over the next five years to Unlimited Potential (UP), a global initiative focused on providing technology skills to disadvantaged individuals through community-based technology and learning centers. In the first round of UP grants, Microsoft awarded $8.1 million in cash and software to 82 nonprofit organizations. Initially, UP will provide funding to help community-based technology and learning centers hire and train technology instructors. Subsequent phases of the initiative will offer an online global support network delivering technology curriculum, research, tools, and help-desk services. $10,000 for science, engineering, math, and tech curriculum projects The Tellabs Foundation, created by telecommunications provider Tellabs Inc., supports local and national education programs with a particular focus on curriculum for engineering, science, mathematics, and technology. The Foundation focuses its support on programs in areas in which Tellabs employees live and work. Unless invited by the Foundation Board to submit a full grant proposal, all new applicants or programs first must submit a letter of inquiry. The deadline for letters of inquiry or invited proposals is four weeks prior to every Tellabs Foundation Board meeting, which are held quarterly, usually in January, April, July and October. Proposals received after the deadline will be considered at the next meeting. It is recommended that letters of inquiry be submitted at least four months before funding is needed.
